Inman is a city in McPherson County , Kansas , United States . The population was 1,142 at the 2000 census. It was founded in 1887 as Aiken. It was renamed Inman, in 1889, after Inman Lake which is located approximately 4  miles  (6  km ) east of the town. The lake was named after its initial surveyor, Major Henry Inman.
